  • A community in Dry Creek rallied around a local family whose home was destroyed by a fire last night. Neighbors gathered to offer support as the family begins to recover.  KNOE
  • Skeletons on Tower returns to Monroe on Oct. 1 when Tower Drive between CC's Coffee House and Newk's Eatery will feature life-sized skeleton displays that families can explore for free while proceeds support ARCO & The Children’s Museum.  MyArkLaMiss

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gina Phillips is a mixed media artist from the Lower Ninth Ward who transformed her art after Hurricane Katrina by using a long-arm quilting machine from a post-Katrina arts grant—her work on large pieces shows how she rebuilt her life and finds inspiration in New Orleans.  MyArkLaMiss

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo in Monroe has welcomed Roux, a two-month-old striped skunk rescued from the wild who will help educate visitors about skunks and their role in the environment. Zookeeper John Hodges said skunks in North America carry sulfur in their scent that can cause temporary blindness in predators.  KNOE

  • The West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce will host Coffee & Conversation with US Senator Bill Cassidy on August 25 at 10 a.m.—business and community leaders are invited to join at the West Monroe Convention Center to learn about legislative priorities and economic development initiatives.  MyArkLaMiss
  • The State Public Service Commission is set to decide if Entergy can supply power to Meta’s new data center in Richland Parish—critics are concerned the deal might raise electricity costs while the project promises to boost local jobs and investment.  MyArkLaMiss
