  • On Aug. 21, local lawmakers met at a breakfast hosted by the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce to discuss the state legislative session and key issues like the new Meta Data Center and federal changes that affect workforce development and snap benefits. Rep. Pat Moore stressed the need for proper training while lawmakers noted that a united approach will help improve education and infrastructure+drive economic progress.  KNOE
  • The Louisiana Public Service Commission approved plans on Wednesday for three state-of-the-art power plants and several substations to support a new Meta data center and boost the local economy — two plants in Richland Parish will become operational in 2028 while a third in St. Charles Parish is set to start by the end of 2029. Some local residents raised concerns about potential increases in electric bills, natural gas costs, and environmental impacts.  MyArkLaMiss
  • Legislators have been asked by House Speaker Rep. Phillip DeVillier to keep open their schedules from Oct. 23 to Nov. 13 for a possible special redistricting session this fall—this comes in anticipation of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on last year's congressional map that may not be decided until as late as June. Some lawmakers contend that the plan, which they say is pushed by Gov. Jeff Landry, may be premature if the ruling delays or supports the current maps.  KNOE
