  • Smitty’s Supply Plant in Roseland laid off nearly 450 employees after a massive explosion disrupted operations, and the Louisiana Workforce Commission has set up a mobile job center in Hammond to help affected workers file for unemployment and apply for training—about 160 people have already sought help.  MyArkLaMiss
  • The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce was honored with the 2025 Excellence in Workforce Development Award at the LACCE Annual Conference on August 26—recognizing its work with local businesses, educators, and job seekers. CRIME NEWS

  • Rayville Police arrested Melvin DeAndre McFarland after a Brookshire’s manager said a man was using fake checks; investigators tied him to fraud in several parishes and he now faces theft and fraud charges while he is held at the Richland Parish Detention Center.  KNOE

  • Strauss Theatre Center is hosting the musical 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' that brings Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts to life with kite mishaps, baseball fails & unrequited love.   • Bayou Jamb players visited Riser Middle School on August 27 to promote character and community during a week-long celebration for football season—school officials noted the program's role in encouraging positive behavior among students.  KNOE

  • ULM’s Dr. Ashanti Jones received the Dave Warner Distinguished Service Award on August 23 for her outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing physical therapy.
