COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Reggie Walker launched Champions of the Spectrum— a flag football league for autistic children with its first event set for September 6 at Ruston Sports Complex. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as the Lincoln Sheriff’s Department assists with inclusivity efforts and community participation.  MyArkLaMiss
  • West Monroe opened a new fishing pier at 108 N Riverfront Street on Aug. 28th to give locals a new way to enjoy the Ouachita River and boost nearby businesses. Duck Commander will install a bronze statue of the late Phil Robertson—honoring his legacy and inviting visitors to explore the revitalized riverfront.  KNOE

CRIME NEWS

  • Monroe police are asking for help identifying a truck involved in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday, August 10 that has damage to its front passenger headlight area—if you have information, please call MPD at 318-329-2600.  KNOE
  • On August 27, a West Monroe pizza delivery worker was held at gunpoint and robbed at the intersection of Bailey Street and Westwood Drive when the suspect used his finger in his shirt to mimic a firearm — deputies later arrested 18-year-old Isiah J. Bell after linking his phone number to the order.  MyArkLaMiss
  • Brandon Coleman from Lancaster, Texas was arrested in the Shreveport Bossier area on August 27 after shots were fired at a Monroe Waffle House—he now remains in jail.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum is preparing to hold its annual Skeletons on Tower fundraiser beginning Oct. 1 in Pavilion Circle, where local businesses and families will sponsor decorated skeletons to raise funds. Sponsors must sign up by Sept. 12, and a rib-bone cutting will take place on Oct. 21 at 10 a.m.—an event that promises to bring the community together.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ava Bankston woke up with severe pain and was quickly taken to St. Francis for an emergency appendectomy—she later praised the caring, updated PICU that kept her safe close to home. The 2 Cars 2 Winners raffle funded the PICU remodel and now supports a Neonatal ICU upgrade with tickets on sale until September 26.  KNOE
