CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force reported a sharp rise in online crimes as cybercrime tips increased from 809 in 2013 to over 13,600 in 2023 with 437 arrests made since last year—officials advised parents to monitor screen time and privacy settings to help protect children. - ➤ Officers responded at 5:32 a.m. on May 22 to a shooting at Church Street and Sherrouse Avenue in Monroe, where a 14-year-old male was injured and later died on May 24, and 20-year-old Tyrese D. Brown was arrested on September 2 and is set to appear in court today—he faces charges of First-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Cruelty to Juveniles, Illegal Use of Weapons, and Carrying a Firearm in a Firearm-free Zone. - ➤ Louisiana recorded the highest chlamydia rates and continues to rank high for gonorrhea and syphilis according to CDC data. Dr. Victoria Bourgeois from Baton Rouge General urged residents aged 15 to 24 to use condoms and get free STD screenings available in every parish—measures that could help reduce the spread.
