COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jay Davis and Adrienne LaFrance-Wells have been named as King and Queen for the 2026 Krewe de Riviere parade after community votes and board interviews. The Grand Ball is set for January 17 and the parade will roll through Monroe and West Monroe on February 7 at 2 p.m.  KNOE

CRIME NEWS

  • The suspect in the Labor Day shooting was found—police say he is now in custody.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mark, the education curator at the Monroe zoo, retired today after many years of service—he is known for his engaging segments that taught visitors about animals. In his final segment, he introduced Malia, a Bengal tiger that has become a favorite among zoo goers.  MyArkLaMiss

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • LSU AgCenter horticulture agents Kerry Heafner and Marcie Wilson are urging local gardeners to save heirloom seeds as summer comes to a close. Their North Louisiana Seed Preservation Program preserves varieties (like Red-N-Sweet watermelon and Louisiana Green Velvet okra) to help ensure successful gardens next year.  MyArkLaMiss

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Monroe is hosting an online public auction that features items recovered from the environmental cleanup of the historic Ouachita Candy building—vintage doors, tables, and furniture—that will fund the restoration of the Cooley House. A preview is held today from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Walnut Street and the auction closes Friday, September 12 at 5:00 p.m.  MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University of Louisiana Monroe will host its second annual Suicide Prevention Wellness Walk on September 10th at 5:30 p.m., starting from the International Student Center (identified by its international flags) and ending at University Grove to raise awareness about available mental health resources.  MyArkLaMiss

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • River Cities Humane Society for Cats announces that Aleister and Zoe are available for adoption today—Aleister has wobbly cat syndrome that is not painful but needs extra care and donations. The shelter offers spay/neuter, vaccines, and microchipping services with an $80 fee and is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.  KNOE
