COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, Northeast Louisiana families joined Hunger Action Day as the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank led its Geaux Orange initiative to fight food insecurity and rising costs—retail partners like Walmart and Brookshire’s helped turn limited funds into more meals.  KNOE
  • The 2 Cars 2 Winners charity event will be held October 2 at 6:00 PM at the Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union, with raffle tickets costing $50 for a chance to win a 2025 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X 4WD or Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport—tickets purchased before September 12 at noon will enter a separate drawing for battery operated ATVs. All funds raised will support StFrancis Medical Center women, children and critical care services.  KEDM

CRIME NEWS

  • West Monroe man Noah Short was charged with Vehicular Homicide after his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane on LA 151 on June 22 while he was texting—he dropped his phone and struck 36-year-old Rachel Rushing, who died at the scene, and he will appear in court today.  MyArkLaMiss
  • On Sunday, September 7th at about 3:36 a.m., OPSO deputies stopped 19-year-old Precious Williams after a hit and run near Highway 165 and Highway 15 led her to intentionally ram an OPSO vehicle—she admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and PCP and now faces charges for attempted first degree murder and aggravated damage to property.  KEDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Trooper Ryan Davis warned that motorists should drive carefully near schools and pumpkin patches—busy due to high school football games on Fridays, middle school games on Mondays and Thursdays, and fall festivals drawing families.  MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS

  • The pioneering mental health unit at Women’s Hospital celebrated its first anniversary and provided psychiatric and obstetrical care to pregnant and postpartum women in 35 parishes and six states—filling a vital gap in maternal care while also offering lactation support to breastfeeding mothers.  MyArkLaMiss

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • National Hunting and Fishing Day will be held on Sept. 27 at Black Bayou National Wildlife Refuge and three additional locations statewide. Attendees can test their skills with shooting ranges, fishing ponds, and boating events—plus learn about wildlife during free exhibits.  KNOE
