- ➤ Monroe-West Monroe Restaurant Week runs Sept.15 to Sept.21 as local restaurants offer fixed-price menus for lunch, dinner and lagniappe. Restaurant Cotton’s Director of Operations spoke on Good Morning Arklamiss — sharing details about one of the specials on offer. KNOE
- ➤ In Monroe, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced that Louisiana’s National Hunting and Fishing Day will be held on September 27 at the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge — the free family event will run from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and include shooting ranges, fishing ponds, boating activities and live animal demonstrations highlighting conservation efforts, sponsored by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation. - ➤ Kiroli Elementary is closed today and Friday for remote learning due to a flea infestation — school officials are working with the Louisiana Department of Health and the Department of Agriculture to treat the building — and students will return on Tuesday after a planned professional development day on Sept. 22. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said that the 2025 teal season will begin Saturday, September 20th and run until September 28th statewide. Hunters must have a Federal Duck Stamp and those 18 and older need a basic hunting license and HIP certification — only blue-winged, green-winged and cinnamon teal can be harvested during the season. - ➤ Residents in Richland Parish have reported cracked windshields and chipped paint from trucks hauling materials for Meta's $10 billion data center—sheriff and state police have doubled patrols to curb speeding and unsafe loads. KNOE
- ➤ West Monroe officials approved a major sewage upgrade—intended to support upcoming Crosley Street road improvements. The project will repair outdated underground infrastructure—long needing repair. KNOE
- ➤ Monroe City Council members are challenging Mayor Friday Ellis' handling of Governor Landry’s appointment of Timothy Williams as fire chief—Council President McFarland said he has contacted an attorney to contest the move under Act 452 after the council received no written notice of plans to reopen testing.
