COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Monroe residents can search for the green cube from Monday, September 22 until October 17 to win $500 and a year of free Johnny’s Pizza. NBC 10 News Today will show daily clues and the giveaway is sponsored by Green Qube, Inc. + Monroe Chamber of Commerce and others. MyArkLaMiss
- ➤ A Phil Robertson statue—set to be built on the fishing pier—will honor his local impact as City, Kiroli Foundation, Duck Commander, and West Monroe Gar Rodeo raise funds near the Ouachita Riverfront property in downtown West Monroe. KNOE
- ➤ Monroe and West Monroe residents will join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept. 20—organized by the Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds for research and support community programs. KNOE
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ ULM School of Visual and Performing Arts will present CLUE, a madcap comedy play adapted from a cult film and board game that sets up a dinner party mystery at the ULM Spyker Theatre. The show runs Oct. 2, 3, and 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.—tickets cost $10 while ULM students enter free with valid ID. KEDM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ ULM Homecoming week will run from September 22nd to 27th and will include a softball game, parade, pep rally— and a football game that will bring together students and alumni. The festivities are planned to celebrate school spirit and unite the Monroe community. KEDM
- ➤ The Adopt-a-School program in Ouachita Parish is connecting schools with community partners — including the Chamber of Commerce — to support events like teacher appreciation and reading programs. Next week, schools will meet with doctors to discuss needs and plan further collaborations while local businesses receive recognition for their contributions. MyArkLaMiss
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today the Department of the Interior announced that over $54 million from the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund will go to the Fish and Wildlife Service to improve waterfowl habitats on national wildlife refuges — funds from Duck Stamp sales and import duties will help protect wetlands and boost public access, including at the Louisiana Upper Ouachita National Wildlife Refuge. - ➤ The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development began a $1.6 million project to improve the U.S.165 intersection near Teakwood Drive by installing a J-turn and removing the crossover at Ray Drive — the work will need temporary nighttime lane closures. Officials said construction is expected to be mostly complete by November. KNOE
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana Cancer Foundation will host a free prostate cancer screening during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month—offering an important early detection service for local men. KNOE
- ➤ St. Francis Medical Center will soon add North Louisiana’s first Ronald McDonald Family Room to offer a supportive space for families during hospital visits — the room is planned and will open once final preparations are complete. KNOE
- ➤ Glenwood Regional Medical Center fixed an elevator issue on its fifth floor after state officials inspected the facility and ensured employee pay was processed on time following earlier concerns + the center said it is actively recruiting to improve staffing. KNOE
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Today, the pigskin picking prognosticator returns for week 3 of Beat the Ace 2025 as he reviews 124 high school football games and plays pickleball at a local court—inviting local fans to join his interactive contest. KNOE
- ➤ Seniors from across Northeast Louisiana gathered for a day of fun at the annual Senior Olympics held at the Monroe Civic Center by Paramount Health Care Consultants. Participants from Monroe and nearby towns raced in wheelchairs, bowled, and tossed bean bags—helping them stay fit and enjoy time with friends. KNOE
