- ➤ Local foster families will have a special day on Sunday, September 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum in Monroe — the event features trauma-informed training from the Center for Children and Families and fun interactive areas for kids. KNOE
- ➤ Humane Society Adoption Center in Monroe has Trix available for adoption and will host Art Unleashed—an interactive pet display featuring adoptable dogs and pet items—at the Courtyard on Cotton Gallery in Downtown West Monroe on November 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. KNOE
- ➤ Monroe's Humane Society Adoption Center is featuring Ron and Harry in its pet adoption event—residents are invited to visit and learn about the available animals. KNOE
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The City of West Monroe will host a Spirits — Whiskey Tasting event on September 26 in downtown West Monroe to raise funds for the upcoming Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival. City staff are upgrading Lazarre Park ahead of the festival on October 4, which will feature Celtic music, artisan vendors, Highland games, children’s activities, and food trucks. MyArkLaMiss
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, education curator Jody Nobles featured the North American box turtle in the 'Zoo to You' segment—she explained its high shell, hooked upper jaw, and 15-million-year presence on the continent while warning that toxic mushrooms in its diet make it unsafe to eat. The report added that box turtles, known for their mild temperament, can live 30 to 40 years as pets. MyArkLaMiss

- ➤ Governor Jeff Landry said more changes are needed for Louisiana’s crime policies as the focus may shift to the courts — he did not rule out another special session or redistricting. MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ ULM is partnering with LifeShare for a two-day blood drive on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Hangar Ballroom A at ULM SUB — donors will receive a free Everyday Hero token while supplies last and LifeShare aims to collect about 500 units each day. KNOE
- ➤ St. Francis Medical Center will build a Ronald McDonald Family Room so parents can stay with their children during hospitalization; the facility will offer three overnight suites, a family kitchen, dining rooms, and a pantry. The $3 million project will need an extra $750,000—funds that are to be raised before its planned completion in spring. MyArkLaMiss
- ➤ The Northeast Delta Human Services Authority held a recovery day event in Monroe during National Recovery Month to offer support for mental health and addiction recovery — over 150 local attendees were transported from centers to access resources and treatment information. - ➤ A new study from Retirement Living finds Louisiana ranked worst in senior care because of preventable hospitalizations, poor quality nursing homes, food insecurity, plus social isolation.
