COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds gathered Saturday at the Downtown River Market in Monroe for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s—a community event that raised funds for care, research, and education—with teams from local schools and businesses joining a promise garden ceremony that used colored flowers to honor those affected.  KNOE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dhaliwal Distributing LLC and 76® opened the new NowSave #19 station in West Monroe on Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 331 Hwy 546—featuring eight fueling stations, a fully stocked store with hot food and family activities, and a $10,000 check for the Now Save 76® ULM Scholarship Fund—while offering discounted fuel at 76¢ per gallon on regular unleaded gasoline.  MyArkLaMiss

CULTURE NEWS

  • During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Palma family from West Monroe honors their late matriarch by sharing generation-old recipes on their food truck that visits various spots (locations vary daily). The family will eventually expand into a restaurant and the daughters are pursuing careers (engineering, veterinary, law) that keep her legacy alive.  MyArkLaMiss

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted total nonfarm employment reached 2,002,500 jobs in August—a slight drop from July but an increase of 19,100 jobs compared to last August—and the unemployment rate fell to 4.4 percent. Monroe gained 100 jobs from July as part of steady employment growth in areas such as trade, leisure, and manufacturing that have supported gains for 53 consecutive months.  MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS

  • The walk to end Alzheimer's fundraiser kicked off Sept. 20th at 9 a.m. — community members gathered along the route to support research and care for those affected by the disease.  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Louisiana high school football teams faced strong opponents from Texas and Mississippi in Week 3 of Friday Night Blitz. In Monroe the Griffins won 39 to 28 — thanks to key plays by Kenny Thomas and Brady Guillot — while other matchups delivered spirited contests for local fans.  KNOE
  • Wossman High School will host a homecoming game where the Wildcats face the Rams — the Richwood Rams and Wildcats are also named Band of the Week for week three of Friday Night Blitz.  KNOE
  • St. Fredrick competed against Jena in week 3 of Friday Night Blitz at Wossman High School Homecoming — the Wildcats and Rams fought hard for state bragging rights. Fans reported strong school pride during the game — energy and competitive play marked the contest.  KNOE
