- ➤ At the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo in Monroe, two rehabbed barred owls named CD and Ophelia use their 270—degree head turns and off-center hearing to locate prey in an under-construction exhibit—expected to open in spring. Visitors can see the birds during educational programs and on zoo strolls. KNOE
- ➤ Optimum is hosting a statewide toy drive in Louisiana for St. Jude to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Maddie — a seven-year-old who died of cancer in 2024. Donations must be new and unopened and are accepted at designated Optimum locations from Sept. 23 to Oct. 24. KNOE

- ➤ Monroe Police warn of a Bitcoin scam that targets elderly residents by tricking them into withdrawing large amounts of cash to deposit into a Bitcoin machine and sending the funds to scammers—cash deposits now face a 72-hour hold for added security if a scam is suspected. MyArkLaMiss

- ➤ The Ouachita River Blues Society will host its annual ORBS Blues Challenge at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28 at Krewe of Janus Float Den in Monroe—winners will advance to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Musicians can enter for $20 with entries due by Friday, September 26. KEDM

- ➤ NASA will launch three innovative spacecraft to map the edge of our solar system—one includes an observatory named after Dr. George Carruthers that will capture ultraviolet images of Earth's outer atmosphere to study solar storms. MyArkLaMiss

- ➤ Lula Perl’s Cafe has quickly become a local favorite at 103 Pelican Boulevard since it opened in July 2023, serving a signature boudin cake that features Creole mustard aioli and a mix of local peppers—cayenne, banana peppers, and jalapeños. Owner Paul Lawson said the dish is a time-saving twist on traditional boudin and that customers can call ahead for the version with casings. MyArkLaMiss
