  • Today, Monroe held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 2026 St. Jude Dream to honor local partners, sponsors, and volunteers—an event marking a key step in community support for St. Jude—and Fox 14 News will cover the ceremony tonight at 6:30 p.m.  MyArkLaMiss

  • Shirley Stewart and Angie Wilson from Monroe-West Monroe Business and Professional Women joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss on Oct. 9 to discuss their nonprofit organization and upcoming events.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • A local man from Specialty Lumber in West Monroe created the world’s first all-cypress violin using sunken wood that spent hundreds of thousands of years underwater—he spent two years working with a Louisiana fiddle maker to craft the instrument which produces a unique, mineral-infused sound.  KNOE
  • ULM now has a new exhibit on Louisiana symbols at its museum of natural history—put together by biology instructor Amanda Thompson and English students who studied state symbols from the crawfish to the state mineral agate—to show the state’s heritage to visitors.  MyArkLaMiss
  • The ULM Museum of Natural History in Monroe will host guest speaker Aubra L. Lee, Ph.D., on October 16 at 5:30 p.m. (in the museum’s STEAM room at Hanna Hall) to celebrate Archaeology Month and discuss the Troyville mound complex in Catahoula Parish.  MyArkLaMiss
  • The John L. Brown Sr. Memorial Scholarship Concert will take place on October 25 at 7 p.m. at the Dixie Theatre in Ruston — Fox 14’s Demetrious Gamble spoke with John Brown and Chris Brister about the event.  MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two Louisiana residents were hospitalized with botulism in September after receiving improper Botox injections from unlicensed providers—one using a counterfeit product bought online and the other treated in a non-medical setting, and officials urge consumers to use FDA-approved products with licensed professionals.  KNOE
  • Nutritionist Jen Avis joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss to explain the link between arthritis and nightshade vegetables. She said that with limited research, people should try avoiding nightshades for two weeks and then gradually add them back—since they offer good vitamins but contain solanine that can upset the gut.  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, the Beat the Ace challenge takes place during week 6 of Friday Night Blitz, inviting local sports fans to test their pigskin predictions—contest details were first announced on Oct. 9.  KNOE
  • Today at 5 and 6 p.m.—KNOE’s Aaron Dietrich leads a live Field Pass event for Friday Night Blitz 2025 week 6 where viewers try their luck with the returning Beat the Ace module and later watch high school football highlights on Channel 8.  KNOE
  • NBC 10 Sports recapped a full day of local sports in Northeast Louisiana—covering events from the MAIS Softball state championships to Thursday night football, with highlights from West Monroe.  MyArkLaMiss
