COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Methodist Foster Care in Monroe won breakfast sandwiches during week 14 of Wendy’s Breakfast Club 2025 — the contest gives 20 sandwiches each week to a local business.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fair season is officially back in Monroe as bright lights, thrilling rides, and the aroma of fried food fill the air — locals enjoy treats like funnel cakes, ice cream, and cotton candy while making family memories. The event brings classic fair favorites and nostalgic flavors that many look forward to each year.  KNOE
  • ULM Museum of Natural History will host guest speaker Aubra L. Lee, Ph.D. for Archaeology Month on October 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the STEAM room of Hanna Hall— the free event invites the public to learn about Troyville, a mound complex in Catahoula Parish. Lee will share new research on early Native American life.  KEDM
  • The New Music on the Bayou Festival celebrated its 10th anniversary on Sunday with a groundbreaking fall concert at Grace Episcopal Church—students from ULM and Louisiana Tech performed experimental pieces including one with graphic notation. The event was moved from Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge due to a government shutdown and set a new format for the annual festival.  KEDM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Michelle McEacharn has been named Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at ULM after serving as interim since June. A veteran of the university since 1989, she has worked in accounting and on several committees and expressed her gratitude for the new role.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Memorial services for Deputy Charles Riley were held Monday—law enforcement officials provided details as they honored his long commitment to duty.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Amy Moore from the Wellness Center joined NBC 10’s Demetrious Gamble on Oct 13—broadcast from West Monroe—to show viewers simple exercise moves in the Movement Monday segment.  MyArkLaMiss
  • The Louisiana Cancer Foundation announced free breast cancer and HPV screening appointments after its Director of Operations, Susie Runkle, discussed them on Good Morning ArkLaMiss—residents are encouraged to sign up for early detection.  KNOE
  • October is SIDS awareness month as the Mississippi Department of Health is teaching caregivers safe sleep practices to lower the risk of unexpected infant death. The guidance recommends placing babies on their backs in a crib with a firm mattress—free of loose bedding, pillows or soft items—and keeping the room cool while avoiding smoke around them.  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kiroli Park is celebrating its 100-year anniversary with a pickleball tournament from October 16 to 18. The event will have games at the West Monroe Sports and Events Complex on October 16 & 17 and at the park on October 18, and registration is open to all participants regardless of age or skill level.  KNOE
  • On October 11, ULM lost to Coastal Carolina 23-8 in a rain-soaked road game in Conway. The Warhawks came from behind and struggled on third downs, and they will host Troy next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Malone Stadium.  KEDM
