- ➤ Living Well Foundation, a nonprofit that supports health programs in our area, will hold its annual luncheon on October 23 at the West Monroe Convention Center from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.—the event will highlight 2024 grant projects and outline 2025 funding priorities. KEDM
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ KDC finished building the $31 million Chase Operations Center in Ruston on Oct. 7 and the five-acre facility is set to open with 50 employees—its workforce may eventually grow to 200 with average salaries of about $50k a year. KNOE

- ➤ KEDM Public Radio will host a Rhythm and Relief event in Alley Park on October 24 at 6:30 p.m.—local artists from Monroe and West Monroe, including Doug Duffey, BaddJosh Madden and Jordan Sheppard, will perform and donations will be accepted. KEDM
- ➤ West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kristopher Kelley talked about directing the murder mystery dinner theatre 'Varney Goes Hawaiian' on Good Morning ArkLaMiss + the production will soon come to West Monroe. KNOE
- ➤ The Ouachita Parish Public Library is hosting Halloween-themed events this October across several branches—at the Main Branch, Arsenic & Old Lace will be shown on October 22 with tea service, while families can watch The Haunted Mansion on October 18, and teens will enjoy a Zombie Prom at West Monroe on October 25 with free tickets required. The library plans a month of fun activities that blend films and creative events to celebrate the spooky season. KEDM

- ➤ A recent study shows that ULM adds $617.6 million each year in added income—making it one of the largest economic drivers in northeast Louisiana. The Ouachita Citizen
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana Delta Community College is hosting its free Spooky STEAM Night today at 5:30 — 7:30 p.m. at its Monroe campus to offer families hands-on science experiments, interactive activities, candy, costumes, and prizes that spark creativity and learning. KEDM
- ➤ The Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana, in partnership with the Louisiana Center for Afterschool Learning and the Louisiana Department of Education, will mark Lights On Afterschool Day by hosting family events beginning Oct 18 at its Family Garden — offering free activities and blue light bulbs to support afterschool programs. A community Celebration and Proclamation will follow on Oct 21 at Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo, where local officials will issue proclamations and free tickets for the first 100 children — the national event continues on Oct 23 with communities lighting landmarks in support of afterschool learning. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ ULM Toxicology faculty at the University of Louisiana Monroe were awarded a $134,299 grant to monitor water quality in the Upper Bayou Lafourche watershed. They will sample monthly for three years after Best Management Practices were implemented by local farmers+the data will help guide BMP improvements by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. - ➤ Keep Louisiana Beautiful honored 34 Community Affiliates for cleaning up communities as part of its 2025 circle of excellence awards—recognizing efforts that included mobilizing over 61,000 volunteers and removing thousands of cigarette butts during 2024–2025. KEDM
