COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Woofstock, the annual festival supporting local animal rescues and shelters, will be held Nov. 1 at Forsythe Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—it will feature a pet pageant, dog races, arts and crafts, shopping, food trucks and live music with adoptable pets.  KNOE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • YouTube TV will drop KAQY from its service on Oct. 31st due to a dispute between Google and Disney — KAQY remains available free on an antenna and on other platforms.  KNOE

CRIME NEWS

  • West Monroe High School went on soft lockdown after police received a threat notification Friday morning and law enforcement identified and detained a suspect within 15 minutes — allowing the school to resume its regular day.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Monroe residents have seen Skeletons on Tower along Tower Drive as the annual contest supports the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum and ARCO—this event has run for nearly four years. Natalie Pedreza from local brand Nuby won Best Overall after a setup on October 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—the skeletons remain on display until October 31.  MyArkLaMiss

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Monroe High School returned to compete in Week 8 of the Downs Law Firm Cheerleader Challenge (after winning in Cheerleader Challenge 2024). The team will now work to build on its success in this ongoing contest.  KNOE
  • Mediterranean donkeys from Sicily are featured in ‘Zoo to You’ at Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo where visitors take a boat ride to see them outside the general exhibits. Educational curator Mr. Jody Nobles said the donkeys’ unique markings (including a cross-like mark) highlight their 4,000-year role as strong beasts of burden (typically weighing between 250 and 400 pounds).  MyArkLaMiss

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Grant Erbelding, a ULM biology student, has been awarded $10,000 from the GIRAF fellowship for his year-long study using drones and satellites to learn how Louisiana's bottomland hardwood forests cope with climate change—he will present his findings at upcoming conferences and work with the state to help protect these wetlands.  MyArkLaMiss

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ouachita Parish Fire Department is offering free smoke alarm installations in honor of National Fire Prevention Month to help protect local homes & keep families safe. Residents can fill out an online request form to schedule their installation.  MyArkLaMiss
  • On October 24, 2025, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that work to replace the LA 838 (New Natchitoches Road) Bridge at Steep Bayou will begin October 27, 2025, weather permitting. Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures and delays during peak hours as a temporary detour bridge is used until the project wraps up early 2027.  MyArkLaMiss

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2025 USTPA World Finals will be held in West Monroe from October 27 to November 1 at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center. Opening day starts at 9 a.m.—global competitors will vie for up to $150,000 in cash prizes while the event is expected to boost Ouachita Parish's economy by roughly $454,469.  MyArkLaMiss
  • The Ouachita Christian Eagles beat the Mangham Dragons by a score of 35 to 14 in week 8 of Friday Night Blitz at Lobrano Stadium—earning the Farm Bureau Game of the Week title.  KNOE
  • The Neville Tigers edged the Ouachita Parish Lions 38-37 in a tight game yesterday — the final play delivered a thrilling finish for local fans.  KNOE
