- ➤ Local Boy Scout troops will drop off empty donation bags on November 1 for residents to fill with nonperishable food items for the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana’s 38th Annual Scouting for Food drive; scouts will collect donations on November 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. KEDM
- ➤ The Chennault Aviation & Military Museum in Monroe will host Chennault Fest 2025 on November 7 and November 8 at 701 Kansas Lane. The free event is a fundraiser for the museum and will feature hot air balloons, live music with Parish County Line on Friday and Laine Hardy on Saturday, food trucks, a petting zoo and a kid's zone. - ➤ Inmates at the Ouachita Correctional Center celebrated big milestones today by earning HiSET diplomas & welding degrees at a ceremony that opened a new welding shop. The programs work with the Department of Corrections and Louisiana Delta Community College to build skills for a better future. MyArkLaMiss
- ➤ The Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana has given $7,000 to the NELA Children’s Museum to expand its educational programming for 122 childcare centers in Region 8 + upgrade the Baby Bayou exhibit for newborns and toddlers. KNOE
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Acadian Ambulance has urged families to add reflective tape—on costumes and treat bags—and use flashlights and glow sticks to help drivers see trick-or-treaters. Officials also recommended sticking to sidewalks, using crosswalks, and checking candy for safety to reduce accidents on Halloween night. KNOE
- ➤ Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center will hold free cancer screenings on December 5th–6th with events scheduled at Monroe locations. On December 5th, screenings at Pinnacle Family Health in West Monroe will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and test for breast, colorectal, and skin cancer—while on December 6th, screenings at Cloyd’s Barber School in Monroe will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for colorectal and prostate cancer.
