COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The NAACP Monroe—Ouachita Parish Branch will host a veterans benefits seminar on Nov. 8 to help veterans and their families access benefits they have earned. The event will be held in Monroe to guide service members on how to get the support they need.  KNOE
  • Today, the Kiwanis Pancake Day takes place at First Methodist Church in Monroe from 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.—this event marks the start of the holiday season in the Twin Cities.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Officials from ULM, LDCC, VCOM, Monroe City Schools — and Ouachita Parish Schools met at ULM’s Bayou Pointe to discuss how working together may solve teacher shortages in Northeast Louisiana. They plan to collaborate to keep more educators in the classroom.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Jeff Landry declared that Nov.2-8 will be Drowsy Driving Prevention Week in Louisiana—authorities urge drivers to get enough sleep and drive only when alert. The campaign, in collaboration with the National Sleep Foundation and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, will share safety tips and host a webinar on Nov.10.  KNOE
  • West Monroe invites the community to the 2025 State of the City Luncheon where Mayor Staci Mitchell will discuss city progress and upcoming initiatives. Tickets are $30 each and tables for eight cost $300—registration is encouraged due to limited seating.  KNOE
