COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A national violence-prevention movement called The Funeral Is Cancelled is planning to come to Monroe soon — organizers say they want local residents to help address crime.  KNOE
  • The Kiwanis Club’s 70th annual Pancake Day event served children and others in need in Ouachita Parish and Northeast Louisiana. Club president Jana Nelson said the organization supports local kids with donations and scholarships—giving over $24,000 to nonprofits last year.  KNOE
  • Hotel Monroe is planning its first Christmas season with festive events in November and December — including a Friendsgiving rooftop gathering with signature cocktails, a wreath-making workshop on November 30, daily 'Coco in the Courtyard' displays starting December 4, and a mistletoe martinis event set to coincide with downtown fireworks.  MyArkLaMiss

CULTURE NEWS

  • 2025 Louisiana Delta Comic Con will be held Saturday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at West Monroe Convention Center—901 Ridge Ave, where fans will enjoy comic, anime, gaming and pop culture attractions including artist meetups, cosplay contests and tournaments.  KEDM
  • The University of Louisiana-Monroe’s 31 Ambassadors will host their 7th annual Hawktober Fest on November 6 from 6–9 p.m. at The Grove on 4709 Bon Aire Dr—tickets cost $15 for students and $25 for community members, and the event will feature beer tasting for guests aged 21 or older, mocktails, live music, German food samples, and festival games.  MyArkLaMiss

  • On November 3, 2025, the Ouachita Parish School Board announced the Student of the Year winners from parish schools for the 2025-26 school year—recognizing outstanding academic achievements across elementary, middle, and high schools.  MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 500 Ouachita Parish Police Jury employees (and their families) now can use the new Employee Health Services Clinic that will help them get checkups and manage chronic conditions while saving taxpayer money. Parish officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at (10:00 a.m.) today to mark its opening.  KNOE
