A national violence-prevention movement called The Funeral Is Cancelled is planning to come to Monroe soon — organizers say they want local residents to help address crime.

The Kiwanis Club’s 70th annual Pancake Day event served children and others in need in Ouachita Parish and Northeast Louisiana.

Club president Jana Nelson said the organization supports local kids with donations and scholarships—giving over $24,000 to nonprofits last year.

Hotel Monroe is planning its first Christmas season with festive events in November and December — including a Friendsgiving rooftop gathering with signature cocktails, a wreath-making workshop on November 30, daily 'Coco in the Courtyard' displays starting December 4, and a mistletoe martinis event set to coincide with downtown fireworks.
