BUSINESS NEWS

  • Peregrine Creative in Monroe won this week’s Wendy’s Breakfast Club contest on Monday, Dec. 15 as the 23rd recipient, and local businesses can still enter for a chance to join the ongoing program.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Monroe City Schools earned a historic 'B' grade as 14 of its 19 schools improved their scores, according to the Louisiana Department of Education. The milestone marks significant academic gains for the district.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Monroe Fire Department reminds residents to keep space heaters three feet from flammable items and plug them directly into wall outlets as winter temperatures drop—free smoke alarm installations are available for those in need.  KNOE
  • Former Louisiana Surgeon General Dr. Ralph Abraham was sworn in Monday as CDC Principal Deputy Director in Washington — he will start his new role in Atlanta on Jan. 5.  KNOE
  • Warming centers help residents during the cold snap. Liller Maddox Marbles Recreation Center (2950 Renwick St) opened Dec. 14 at 10am, and Bastrop Dotson Park Gym (1019 Robinson Ave) is open Dec. 13–16 from 5pm to 10am as overnight temperatures drop near 20°F with highs in the 40s.  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Monroe Moccasins swept Biloxi this past weekend with wins of 10-2 on Friday night and 12-1 on Saturday, showing a strong offense on ice (energizing local fans). The team is preparing to face tougher opponents next.  KNOE
