COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Center for Children and Families wrapped up its record-breaking Christmas Project that provided gifts and essentials to over 1,200 children across north Louisiana. The campaign involved more than 500 donors — delivering nearly $200,000 in support to help the children feel valued.  KNOE
  • The Center for Children and Families held its largest Christmas Project on Dec. 30, gifting over 1,200 children across North Louisiana and providing essential items to families in need.  KNOE
  • The Center for Children and Families completed its largest Christmas Project+ providing gifts and essential items to 1,200+ children across North Louisiana on Tuesday, Dec. 30. The initiative supported families facing challenges like foster care placement, abuse, neglect and poverty.  KNOE
  • Drax donated $20,000 to the Center for Children and Families following its successful annual golf tournament at Frenchman's Bend. The renewable energy company raised funds through charity holes to boost local support programs for children and families.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jack Hightower of Monroe will volunteer at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena on New Year’s Day; the Louisiana Gulf to Gumbo float (celebrating local cuisine and teamwork inspired by shrimpers, crabbers and home cooks) will debut at the event.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fireworks sales increased for the holidays, and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal has urged Monroe residents to use them safely. The office advises keeping fireworks 200 feet from people — a measure to reduce injuries and support public displays.  KNOE
  • Monroe's Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to celebrate safely tonight by using legal fireworks from licensed vendors and designating a sober driver; the office (318-744-5411 for emergencies) advises reporting impaired drivers as patrols increase.  KNOE
