COMMUNITY NEWS

  • First Baptist Church of Swartz held its Eggs on the Endzone egg hunt at East Ouachita Middle School football field—providing Easter eggs, candy and fun for children up to sixth grade—to share the message of Easter with local families.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Acting ULM President Nick Bruno informed faculty and students today that the university faces a $4—5 million deficit this fiscal year and a $10—12 million shortfall next year; he ruled out furloughs and stressed that boosting enrollment is key to balancing the budget.  MyArkLaMiss
  • Neville High School's B.O.O.M. Youth Fraternity’s Blue Knights received an official proclamation from the City of Monroe yesterday after winning the High School Male Division at the Stomp Wars National Championship on April 4th and 5th—Coach Courtney Wallace said the team worked hard at practice after football and class, and they will compete in the Rise of the Greeks Step Show on April 26.  KNOE
  • On April 11, the University of Louisiana at Monroe hosted its annual oozeball event on campus. The event marked a recurring tradition at the university.  MyArkLaMiss

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Tensas Basin Levee District is taking steps to get ready for high water on the Ouachita River—NWS Shreveport says the river will reach flood stage. Officials say the water's rise is normal in spring and are working to protect nearby areas.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local family launched an Easter basket raffle to help cover the high costs of several heart surgeries after doctors found a rare defect in baby Myles during pregnancy. The raffle sells tickets for $10 each and features baskets donated by local businesses — funds that will support the necessary surgeries.  KNOE
